How to arrange care

Congestive heart failure, sometimes called CHF, occurs when the heart's ability to pump blood is compromised, causing blood to back up in the veins and leading to congestion in the body's tissues. This often results in swelling (edema) in the legs and ankles and can cause fluid buildup in the lungs (pulmonary edema), leading to shortness of breath, especially when lying down.

If left untreated, pulmonary edema can lead to severe respiratory distress.

Additionally, CHF affects the kidneys' ability to dispose of sodium and water, increasing blood volume and further exacerbating swelling.

Congestive heart failure (CHF) occurs when the heart cannot pump blood efficiently, leading to symptoms like swelling, shortness of breath, and fluid retention. There are different types of CHF, including left-sided, right-sided, and congestive heart failure.

Understanding these types and managing them with comprehensive home care can significantly improve the quality of life for patients.

Congestive heart failure refers to the stage where fluid builds up around the heart and affects its ability to pump efficiently. This fluid retention can cause swelling in the legs, ankles, and sometimes in other parts of the body. It can also lead to pulmonary edema, where fluid collects in the lungs, causing breathing difficulties.

Left-sided heart failure is the most common type of heart failure. This when the left ventricle is unable to pump blood effectively. It can be further classified into: Systolic Failure (HFrEF), Diastolic Failure (HFpEF), or Mid-Range EF (HFmrEF).

Right-sided or right ventricular heart failure typically results from left-sided failure. The right ventricle fails, causing blood to back up in the veins, leading to swelling in the legs and ankles.

The symptoms of multiple sclerosis (MS) can vary widely depending on the type of MS and the individual.
